Livermore
Founded in 1869, Livermore is the oldest city in the Tri-Valley. It is also Californias oldest wine region, and still boasts many ranches and farms. It is also the largest city in the area with a population of over 80,000 people.
Less than an hour from San Francisco, Livermore offers its residents a premier location that enjoys convenient access to the greater Bay Area. Geographically, the historic Livermore Valley is linked to four distinct areas: the valley communities which immediately surround it, the Santa Clara Valley, the Peninsula and the San Francisco metropolitan region. Served by Interstates 580, 680 and Highway 84, and tied closely to major employment centers with Bay Area Rapic Transit stations, Livermore is both accessible and affordable.
A revitalized downtown area has earned the award of "Best Main Street in America" for 2009. Unique shops, excellent restaurants, and both a new movie theater and 500 seat performing arts center in downtown have boosted the urban living experience for residents. Livermore's many festivals attract people from both far and near. There are numerous wineries within the city, as well as a resurgence in olive oil pressing. The Farmer's Markets showcase local produce on both Thursday nights and Sunday mornings.
Livermore has several golf courses to choose from, whether you are looking for value or a destination. Las Positas Golf Course, Poppy Ridge Golf Course, Springtown Golf Course and Wente Golf Course have something for everyone.
The Livermore Wine Country Festival takes place May 2 - 3, 2009, located in Historic Downtown Livermore, First St. from P Street to Maple Street, Second St. from N Street to K Street.
